1:2. ரோமாபுரியிலுள்ள தேவப்பிரியரும் பரிசுத்தவான்களாகும்படி அழைக்கப்பட்டவர்களுமாகிய அனைவருக்கும் எழுதுகிறதாவது;

1:2. தனது மக்களுக்கு நற்செய்தியை தரப்போவதாக தேவன் ஏற்கெனவே வாக்குறுதி தந்துள்ளார். தேவன் தனது தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் மூலம் இவ்வாக்குறுதியை வழங்கினார். இந்த வாக்குறுதி பரிசுத்த வேதவாக்கியங்களில் எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளது.
